ETFO begins next phase of job action on Jan. 13

Posted On Friday January 10, 2020

The Elementary Teachers Federation of Ontario (ETFO), which represents Thames Valley elementary school teachers, has announced the next phase of its ongoing work-to-rule job action will begin Monday, January 13, 2020.

As part of Phase 3, ETFO members will NOT:

  • plan or participate in school assemblies,
  • participate in field trips, or
  • participate in extracurricular sports and other activities outside of regular school hours.

All extra-curricular activities outside of the instructional day – including but not limited to clubs, sports teams, etc. – will be cancelled until further notice effective Monday, January 13, 2020.

If an agreement is not reached at the central bargaining table in Toronto by Friday, January 17, 2020, the union says its members will begin rotating strikes effective Monday, January 20, 2020. In addition, as part of Phase 4 of ETFO’s job action, teachers will also cease to participate in professional learning activities.

More details may be found at ETFO’s website: https://etfocb.ca/strike-protocol-work-to-rule-phases-34/

Unless parents and guardians are notified on Thames Valley websites and social media, all schools will remain open and continue to be focussed on supporting the learning needs of students.

Thames Valley understands that the current labour situation may pose challenges for students and families and thanks parents and guardians for their ongoing patience and understanding.
